Tenugui - traditional japanese cloth

$25.00

A hand-dyed Japanese textile that has been used for hundreds of years. They are versatile and quick drying, traditionally used as hand towels, handkerchiefs, gift wrapping, napkins, and more. I often use these beautiful fabrics for displaying ceramics, table centerpieces, tea ceremony offerings…and wrapping my bento lunch box. These four are called KOMON which means "little patterns" in Japanese. As with many things in Japan, each pattern has its name and meaning. From left to right we have Giku (chrysanthemum), KESHI-TSUBU-TSUNAGI (row of poppy seeds, red), ASA-NO-HA (Hemp leaf, red), KESHI-TSUBU-TSUNAGI (row of poppy seeds, indigo)

Hand printed in Japan with an age-old process, 100% cotton.
